Now it's personal... Ny Daily News calls Eagles a "circus act"....
Your hometown team is going through some heavy shyte right now, and then the New York media piles on...
Fuel for a big comeback, bulletin board style, I says...
Although it rarely works out this way, the New York Giants must be punished for the sins of its media...
I have never seen such a display of rude arrogance piled upon a Philadelphia football team by the New York press. It is especially galling in light of the tragic news of the details of Garret Reid's death.
Hank Gola of the New York Daily News (and I hope to hell he is not related to the Philadelphia Warriors' legend Tom Gola) threw kerosene on the fire of the Eagles troubles yesterday:
Andy Reid and the struggling Philadelphia Eagles are currently headlining the NFL’s traveling circus
The biggest issue that will be debated and dissected until the Eagles next take the field against the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons a week from Sunday... What is Reid to do with Michael Vick?
What a horrible and cheaply contrived headline!
Are you kidding me? Did Gola spend his daddy's money to go to Journalism School to come up with this kind of tripe?
This guy gets paid a pretty penny to write this crap?

Those photos above are what a traveling circus act is all about... it's about as far away from what NFL football and the Eagles are really about as you can get...
"It's Week 7...They have folded up the big top and left ringmaster Rex Ryan to play his more cerebral game of chess with Bill Belichick. The real entertainment is in Philly and it's playing through this week's bye. The Eagles are in chaos and the calliope is humming."--- Hank Gola, NY Daily News.
Damn, Hank, this is about football, and the biggest difference between football and circus is there are no safety nets... Tell me Andy Reid is on a high wire, and you have me at hello...but don't call it a circus.
Careers are on the line, for both players and coaches. It's nothing to joke about...
Yes, Hank, we know...
"The Eagles offense, who took the league by storm with all of its speed not too long ago, is next to last in scoring at just over 17 ppg. They lead the league in turnovers and Vick has 13 of those 17. When he hasn't been throwing eight interceptions, he's been coughing up five fumbles.
"Even Reid must know that Vick isn't suddenly going to turn into Bart Starr when it comes to ball security. He is by nature a daredevil. He holds onto the ball too long, especially for this mismatched West Coast offense, and his legs are getting to the age where they can't get him out of trouble. He is constantly exposed by Philly's threadbare O-line and, given the Eagles' throw-first philosophy, defenses are going to be geared to keep bringing the hits.
"Many in Philly expect that Reid's next move will be to take over the play calling from veteran offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Would that be a precursor to replacing Vick with rookie Nick Foles? Curiously, Reid left that possibility open when the media asked about Vick Tuesday."
Reid's teams usually pick it up in the second half of the season. Although last year's team ended up short of the playoffs, they were playing at a high level at the end of the year. Reid has never lost a locker room in his 12 previous seasons. That could be in question.
In the wake of the Eagles blowing last week's game against the Lions, wide receiver Jason Avant's candor was telling:
"It's undisciplined football, an undisciplined team at this point," he said. "Six games in, it's embarrassing. That's the word. Embarrassing. For coaches. And veteran players. With the mindset of, 'Me before the team,' in certain instances. And we need to address that."
Added Nnamdi Asomugha, the cornerback also critical of Castillo, "Coach Reid is such a disciplinarian, and there are times in the game where that becomes an issue. It makes no sense."
I don't know exactly how to interpret those comments by Avant and Nnamdi. They certainly don't say "circus" to me. Apparently they say "circus" to Gola.
What I'm hearing is that the bye week is the perfect time for self-evaluation by all the units of the Eagles--O, D, ST and coaches... and Avant and Aso were venting their similar emotions---"we're better than 3-3 and we are ready to prove it..."
It's pretty amazing that adolescent emotion still plays a big part in how young adults react and respond to football adversity when you are basically getting paid to do so. But that is a reality of pro football.
But I expect a more adult level of emotion from the journalists who are paid to cover the emotions of the adolescents who are paid to play the game. Thus I am calling out the New York Daily News and Hank Gola for unsportsmanlike conduct. Their combined lack of class in kicking the Eagles while the Birds are "down" in a number of different senses of the word is unforgiveable.
