D-Day in Philly...Livefyre game commentary from smart phans...
Written by Thomas Jackson on .
No disrespect intended to the veterans who fought in the actual D-Day invasion of Normandy... the "D" stands for Dallas, Defense and Destiny...
Yes, the Eagles (3-5) need this one badly in order to establish a beachhead on the rest of the schedule. Right now the Eagles are losing the war.
Teams of destiny in this league usually get a lift from their defense when the offense is struggling. I'm hoping the Eagles "D" responds against Dallas (3-5) in a big way this Sunday. I'm hoping the D-unit will even score some points, or at least set up the offense and special teams with some short-field scoring opportunities.

The Eagles defense has some big money invested in it. Now is the time for the "D" to take charge of a game.
The Cowboys' defense is hurting a little bit coming into this game. CB Mike Jenkins is questionable with a back injury. LB Dan Connor is hobbled by a stinger, but may still play. Dallas will most likely start Bruce Carter and Ernie "The Shark" Sims at ILB. Alex Albright, who's actually listed as an outside backer and DE, will be their main backup at ILB.
Our smart phans will update us on the Inactive List for both teams as the afternoon gets closer to kickoff. Then they will take over the Livefyre booth as they react to what unfolds on the field through this evening. No matter what, this nationally televised game (FOX) will reveal the turning point in the war of 2012 for the Eagles...and I have prepared both a victory speech and a surrender speech in advance.
Carry on.
we have 2 linebackers to build around. Kendricks is gonna have his breakout year and it will be one to remember. Defensive line . . . the youth is very encouraging. Graham, Hunt, Cox, Thornton all look ready to start full time. Jenkins . . . good but probably not good enough, Landri is a full time backup, Babin is a 3rd down rusher and needs to take a paycut. Cole . . . is probably done, at this point, or just going through a REALLY BAD YEAR. DRC . . . probably gone, no run support, coverage is on and off. Namdi . . . good in run support, his coverage is either air tight or a step too slow, I wonder how he would do as a safety? Boykins should be on the outside, Hughes has flashed and should get to fight for a start. Marsh . . . suks. Coleman . . . love his attitude and his agression, when he is on he can make plays, but he needs to quit biting on the damn playfakes! Allen . . . hasnt made a play in a while, solid tackler but not intimidating. Sims . . . need to see more. Honestely, I dont think we have so many holes that we cant fix them. We just ned a change at coach.
we got a lot of good pieces on this team. Foles looks like a keeper (his 1st game and he threw a few bad passes . . . its his first fucking game!). Havilli Shady and Brown looks like a good backfield to me . . . we need to find out how good Brown can be catching the ball. Tight End . . . I like Celek but he needs some help and Harbor doesnt cut it. I like Maclin at the outside, move Peanut to the slot . . . he's getting paid, he has shwon he CAN make tough catches, he has the speed and quicks, and he can start catching punts again. Avant should bea 4 or 5 at this stage and its time to draft a big body opposite Maclin. O-line . . . could be a problem for a while, but maybe our new coach will rehire Juan to mold a few diamonds out of cole (example . . . Dennis Kelly . . . potential tackle?)
I didn't realize that the last tied game was us vs. Cincy. Then I laughed when I remembered that McNabb didn't know the game could end in a tie.
Oh well..later all.
At least we're not Chicage Bears...boy - they REALLY SuX
Nite All.
How strange would it be for Eagles / Cowboys to both have Ryan Brothers as D -Coordinators?
@Palm Feathers Great, let's get twin loudmouth coaches in Philly, that would work out swell.... :(
@Palm Feathers It would be better to watch it after an Eagles win but I'll take what I can get.
Can throw all of the stats and names at me you want....
Seems to me that the main thing that kept us out of the crap for past 10 YEARS or so on Offense is when Mc5 could outrun anybody and JJ had our D playing well
When Mc5 started to slow up - D still kept us in it.
Only thing kept us outta the fire after JJ passed (McDermot) was Vicks first 10 games or so..nobody could catch him and he NEVER turned the ball over - remember?
Truthfully for reasons (some that seem to change weekly) that are many.....AFTER about 10 games or so (2010) this Team has been - poor to worse.
So - long backwards view...we've been on the decline for about 5 years....this is not new. I now feel this is beyond Coach Reid's ability to fix. It would not surprise me that he resigns soon - VERY soon.
Not ALL bad - when a system breaks down EVERYTHING looks terrible when in fact it can be repaired with a handful of the correct pieces.
So - bring on the hounds - let's take this medicine - get this thing fixed and move on!
Whatever the issue is...I sure as H*ll didn't expect this this year - thought we were going to the playoffs...
OK - I'm babbling - AND I'm Done.
Yes - he's on my Very-Short list for a Ticket out of town.
Gonna be a LOT of folks heading to Cleveland I thinky.
We DO have some pretty good pieces in place - not that they've getting used properly - and I still think one of the best drafts I've seen IN YEARS.
@Brozer8 I hear ya. I'm past being deflated over these Eagles losses though, anymore I expect complete meltdown blowouts with this horrible, horrible Eagles football team. I'm just gonna be patient for now and know that big time change is imminent. Re-building is going to suck also but at least it's a fresh start.
I think Bri took San Francisco in that Suicide Pool thingy he was doing,....and that a tie means he's out.
@Brozer8 Colin Kaepernick was asked after the game if he knew that ties existed in the NFL, and he did! imagine that.
I guess he did OK getting this far,....
But I don't really know. I haven't had time to pay attention, as I've been busy with my Fantasy Football team.
I've done really well this year.
I gave up, oficialy, on this season, when Henery missed the extra point. I mean that just tells you right there that every possible thing that can go wrong is and will go wrong. So while i will love my team because they are my team i want us to only win games that hurt the gnuts and cowgirls the rest of the season.

This would be a lot easier to take if Ernie Sims had not played a very good game..
HAHAHAHA!!!!
Foles says he got in the huddle and the 10 guys in there looking back at him were his brothers.
Diddinger quips afterwards "Unfortunately, they were the "Osmond Brothers".
@TheGreatJB99 There will be some cap hit we'll suffer in the furure, but, sounds good so far! You could even keep going if you'd like...
