Apologies to Smokey Robinson, but my mama told me, you better shop around...
Busy 24 hours. The 32 teams of the National Football League have until this coming Monday to designate their franchise players. Under the new CBA, an exclusive-rights franchised player will be signed for one year at a number far below previous seasons' numbers. It used to be the player would receive the average of the top five paid players at the position. Now, there is a formula based on the salary cap and the franchise amounts of the past five years.
Non-exclusive rights franchised players are free to negotiate with other teams, but their original teams can match the offer or receive two first-round selections. Teams that designate a player are still free to negotiate a long-term deal with them, and then rescind the tag and apply it to another free agent.
Confusing enough? Maybe not to Chris Carr, Ravens nickelback who was just released to conserve cap space and who is a soon-to-graduate law student. I remember JB was pretty high on this guy a year ago...now the defensive back (who was due to earn $3.25 million) is a free agent. In the months before Nnamdi and DRC were signed by the Eagles in 2011, Carr would have been on the Eagles' radar. But in this new year, Carr is just another mannequin in a show window the Eagles will pass by...
Chris Carr (#25)... CB, 5-10, 182, 8th year out of Boise State... a solid, smart DB and special teams guy who has exceeded his salary cap value at $3.25 million... Not that long ago, he would have been a nice fit for the Eagles... But at his current price, the Eagles will probably look away...unless they decide to part ways with Asante Samuel.
And there's the rub. Carr could still be in the Eagles' Free Agent signing picture if Asante Samuel is either traded or released... and Carr could still be in the Ravens' picture in a restructured contract compromise.
That's the crazy thing about this time of year in a non-litigative offseason shared by ownership and the players' union...You don't really know who's signing on as a free agent with another team until the old team that released the player in question is done negotiating with him...
All that said, here is a breakfast menu of recent releases and franchise tag guys who are technically still in play for the Eagles:
|K Phil Dawson||Browns||Tagged||Back-to-back tags for your kicker, and you wonder why you pick top 10 every year?|
|K Mike Nugent||Bengals||Tagged||Apparently will free up S Reggie Nelson to hit the open market...|
|S Dashon Goldson||49ers||Tagged||Might send early 3rd rounder in '08 Reggie Smith packing. Could be possible Elam replacement...|

|WR Lee Evans||Ravens||Released||Yawn...|
|RB Ray Rice||Ravens||Tagged||One of the only top-flight runners on a winning team (hint, hint, hint)...|
|TE Fred Davis||Redskins||Tagged||One zone of kush away from being gone for a year. Have fun Redskins.|

|RB Marshawn Lynch||Seahawks||Not Tagged YET||Expected by Monday if no long term deal met...|

Obviously, more players will hit the list over the weekend, and then we'll be down to a week before teams can actually sign new players. It's coming people... it's coming.
@ this point the 6ers need a closer, but with little to no cap space, the draft is the best chance @ finding one. Just cant win the close ones.
I'm reviewing the GFBWJB99 recent posts,.no wonder he's stuck on 9931,..i aint likin squat,..there. whoswiffme?
@briview A few weeks back.
Palm, explaining the old Bored and what happened and our current situation is kinda funny...Just remember not to take anything too seriously...As with anything, it being funny and not taking any of it too seriously suits us...
Dallas SanFran NFC championship on NFLN right now.
IMO,...the best era of foozball.
And guess what: the officials aren't calling penalties evry other play,....and the defense can actually hit the offensive players !!!
Old school announcers too.
I just had a roast beast and provolone sangwhich. That coconut/curry/lime shrimp dish I had for supper was like eating Chinese. TBT,..it was gorgeous.
Broz is in the mood for an inappropriately large bowl of cereal.
I'll have to stay away from anyting Fiber-related,...as I've learned my lesson about eating more than 3 or 4 recommended servings of fiber cereal at one time.
Need to stay away from Fruit Loops too. Trust me.
I'll find sumptin' !
Abe,....I took your suggestion,....and implementateded it.
It may be my best avatar ever.
I can't TYIA enough.
Telling yop - from a causual observer's prospective last year at OTI- one minute things were normal - people going to the shed, perk-ups and stuff. Seemed like the next minute - all of you vanished, the IQ went down and the site was different.
Guess a lot more went on there than met the eye....
If you guys 'built' that board, then the board IS you. Don't know exactly what went down - more than my Smurffy mind can grasp - but if some of the Old Guard did a mutiny thing and you're all (most of you all) are here - then the 'Bored' is intact - just a different address. I'm guessing here.
Honestly - that site and messages are pretty "JV" in my opinion. Seems like the could at least afford a better website. Haven't really seen a 'good' official NFL team site. Just my opinion.
Damn, Sixers couldn't keep Rose in check enough, lost 96-91...I'm really sick of seeing them lose narrowly to the Big Boys, they really need the piece that puts them over the top...
@AbeLinc64.His answer,.as is his custom,..was yet another re direct. He did not give me an answer to my question,.if you followed the soon to be forgotten grilling. He wears everybody out. Kenny lost all his hair and 39 lbs trying to rationalize wiff that fomite.
still think you guys are fixated about that place. It's better here. At least the insults come in real-time - no refreshing all of the time.
@Palm Feathers nope,....it's the principle esp as it relates to some of the old BORED. Woody was part of that. TBT,..Woody is impossible to dislike. I don't know why.
nope - it's not better here or nope - it's not fixation?
Not being a smart-a** , just trying to understand.
@Palm Feathers Palm no doubt this place is better and my patience is ever ebbing wiff some of this guys.. At some time and that time will definitely come... I will do my best Popeye impersonation and will sez that's all I can stands I can't stands more!
