Australia's Beano on putting more cardio in Eagles attack...
Open mike week continues here at the Neptune Lounge with today's guest writer Beano Watt, an Iggles fan from down under whom you may know better as "Beanstalk" or "Bean Jovi"...
Beano's been following the Eagles and contributing commentary to a number of Iggles blogs and message boards for many a season. You'll recognize him by his down-home storytelling, comic stylings, retro video clips, and primers on Aussie slang...and occasional drunken (staged?) rants. You will also notice that this bushwhacker knows a lot about American football. Today he suggests a trend may be developing toward incorporating more aspects of Aussie style rugby into the NFL. Howard Mudd is Beano's hero in that theory. Beano calls it the "cardio factor"...

Here's Beano (far right) with his Aussie crew, from left, Jimi Jack, Montreal Bennett, and Sissy Cavanaugh...Greetings from Down Under!
Putting More Cardio in Eagles Attack by Beano Watt
I just have been thinking about some topics...
I don't have any desire to steal any MORE of ya thunder than what we do in the comments. So I will seek to inspire you then.
The Eagles Almanac was a start, I got a little bit out of it... The rips on Juan...Which ACTUALLY got Tommy Lawlor fired up. I don't think he read it all before it was published...
My idea..
The Mudd mantra... Smaller, more athletic Linemen.
Comparing my native football codes is what got me thinking, We have your 250 to 290 lb big men... BUT they have to be able to run AT least 60 minutes of an 80 mins game... Constantly Working whilst on the field. Its Amazing to think of a Centre or Guard that size doing that, but they do it well when their Cardio is right. And it comes down to the forwards Cardio, not their strength, that wins the game.
Mudd I think, has been taking this Old school Rugby approach for years, and being called a genius. You want strong guys that are not bigger or taller, but Fitter than the other teams line big guys.. Sure Haloti and Ratliffs will ragdoll the inexperienced little O-lineman a few plays every game, But they will be feeling it in the 4th more than the Ragdoll...IMO...
Let alone the 'No Huddle'..., you think a hell of a lot clearer when you ain't gasping for breath...
Maybe that IS the biggest thing we missed last Off-season. Practicing that. No Huddle is a MASSIVE weapon for a fit O-line...Aye Peyton? If I am right...they will use a ton of it considering Bell is the only significant change to the O... So nearly a year and a half to get the playbook down together.
Can the same be said for 'under-proto' sized DEs and DT's... Yes... Totally... This over-used, High Motor analogy is one thing, but Fitness goes hand in hand with it.. Freeny's Agility and fitness was dominant for years.. Mathis was a converted OLB.....Why I wonder? Do you think Mudd had a hand in it? The D-lines fitness?.....I do, in the theorectical side of it.
Does Washburn get it? Being more in favour of Rotation... wanting fresh players on the field tells me, he can't get a player FIT enough to do it all day...Or MAYBE we are witnessing a distinct PLOY by Wash to take advantage of teams that haven't caught on to Mudd's mentatlity, and still think you should be paying 330 pound Hamburglars like Mayweather, coz he is big..
The Power Vs. Endurance cycle is carefully coached... But how many teams have it right?
