Happy 4th of July from Boner and the Eye....
Lets take you on a trip back to the yr when we were gonna party like it’s 1999.do.do.dodo doo.......E2K was the fear…will the world come to an end when all our computers fry because they have no data for a new millenium?..
Our beloved Birds were not phased. E2K was the least of their problems. Out goes Ray Rhodes after an embarrassing 3-13 mess of a 1998 season. In comes Andy Reid, the future of the franchise for the next 13 or so years as we now know. Out goes Emmitt Thomas as DC and in with the late great Jim Johnson. A new OC and Brad Childress succeeds Sean Peyton as QB coach. With the ever durable Juan Castillo still on Oline duty. A few other notable assistants like Pat Shurmur , Ron Rivera , Spags , Leslie Frazier and John Harbaugh. Basically, Lurie cleaned House from 98’ to usher in a new era FO for our Philadelphia Eagles that will take us in to the new millennium. That new FO led by Lurie , Banner and AR got one draft pick right regardless of what some fans thought. Donovan Mcnabb was the 2nd pick of the 99’ draft. The rest of that draft was horrible with the arguable exception of Barry Gardner and maybe John Welbourn. The season was a underachieving 5-11 . Landing us 5th in the EAST. Yes 5th. The Arizona Cardinals were still in the EAST b4 the re-alignment.
New Yr 2000….Whoooo hoooo…the world did not end. The Computers survived. There were no sightings of the 4 horseman riding in on Black , Red, Pale or white horses. We all looked to our Birds with the same Hope and anticipation us “Homers “ always do every off season. Whelp…..Turrible draft ..Turrible We pick up Corey Simon with the 6th overall Todd Stinkston 36th overall and 4 other non mentionables who never made a NFL roster. Simon did come to be of value eventually b4 a meltdown of his own but we will get to that. However , AR and Co rebounded to finish 11-5 and made the playoffs only to lose to the division Rival Giants 20-10. The Giants went on to get stomped by The Ravens 34-7 in the Superbowl HA HA…but that is neither here nor there
2001 Bring in Heckert to the FO and little Sean McDermott to the Defensive assistant pos and yet another disappointing draft. Our First pick Was none other than FRED X.. Other than 4th and 26 against the Packers…BUST. We picked up Derrick Burgess who played better after he left the Eagles than he did wile he was one. A local boy from my parts in AJ feely , Buckhalter , another walking wounded BUST for DDD’s list. and Quitnton Carver ??? WHO….yeah that’s what I thought. Somehow our beloved Birds won the EAST 11-5 and advance through to the NFC Championship game only to come up 6 points shy of beating the greatest show on turf in the St Louis Rams.
2002 probably the Biggest heartbreaking season to date. For me at least. Great Draft. Michael Lewis, Shel Brown , BWest , WOW….Pro Bowlers, we crushed our opponents , we heard the Lamentation of the women. We rode a 12-4 season to another NFC title game only to PUKE it away to
2003 Marty Mornhinweg joins the staff as a “senior assistant” other wise the FO and coaching staff stands pat. Once again we have an arguable draft. Jerome McDougle was touted to be the baddest man of that yrs draft….until he broke his leg and then got robbed and shot in the stomach. Only other notable was a decent TE in LJ Smith. Our beloved bad ass Birds cruised to another NFC title match against Jake FN Delome and the Carolina Panthers. After kicking ass and taking names all yr long and winning the east with another 12-4 season , Our Birds muster a lousy 3 pts and lose yet another chance at the Lombardi Turrible..Just Turrible.
2004 This is the yr. we are cocky. We have ruled the East and there is no one in our way from continuing to rule. Just uttering a whisper of EAGLES puts fear in the hearts of men who have to face us. Yet another questionable draft. A boat load of picks but the only highlight was Shawn Andrews with our first pick . He Played OT in college and was a G\T for us. A manhandling force with baggage, both mental and physical. Eventually cut because of chronic (laziness) back injuries. We blasted the competition to another NFC Championship Game with a 13-3 record. The Beasts from the EAST. The NFC Championship Game and (now) ironically against the Atlanta Falcons led by none other than Mick Vick. The Eagles Offense was smoking Brian Westbrook was on fire , with help from Dorsey Levens. LJ Smiff and Chad Lewis were openly available for Dmac all day long. On defense Hollis Thomas was stuffing Dunn and Duckett and leveled Vick on a no gainer. Vick went over the middle to his favorite target Algae Crumpler and Brian Dawkins flat out Kilt him. A Crushing blow. Derrick Burgess sacked Vick twice and Corey Simon sealed it with a tackle for a loss on Vick down in the red Zone. Dmac pumping his fists . We did It. NFC East Champs headed to the Superbowl.!!
We all know the rest of the story. To put on the gutsiest performance of his entire career , we played our hearts out and came up 4 pts shy of that coveted Lombardi.
2005 we had a Superbowl hangover and went 6-10.
2006 we won the East again and made it in to round 2 of the playoffs losing to the Saints by 3 ...this was the Garcia era when Dmac was injured. Shel Brown crushed Reggie Bush , we all remember that one.
2007 a disappointing 8-8
2008 picked up Djax in the draft , brought in Assante Samuel in FA , finished 2nd in the east at
2009 Lost our heart and soul Brian Dawkins to FA and we lost an anchor of an Eagle coach in Jimmy Johnson to cancer. RIP drafted Shady McCoy and Jeremy Maclin. Sent 9 Eagles to the Pro Bowl , Djax a first to be selected at 2 different positions. Finished 2nd in the East and lost the 1st rd playoff to
2010 out goes Heckert in comes Howie , Dmac goes to
2011 we all want to forget. Lost Qmike and Stew fired McDermott , moved Juan to DC Lock out , no TC …lots of DRAMA……
That brings us up to date. I hope you enjoyed this trip down memory lane. We are on the cusp of a new eagles Era. I still see Jeff Lurie at the podium saying “8-8 will not cut it with the talent we have”. So like in 1998 when the entire organization was overhauled , if these 2012 Birds can not get us to the promised land , history will repeat and Lurie will be cleaning house once again.
Boner saddles up for another flight for glory...get ready for the 2012 season...a safe and happy journey is wished for all...

Good article Boner, pretty good. Corey Simon was a fantastic pick, just like Shawn Andrews. Unfortunately other circumstances ruined them. McDougle was a monster in college. Seemed like he had all the tools........ When I think of FredEx and LJ Smith, all I see is R Wayne and J Witten!!! Those are guys we could have drafted instead

Welp... we took the pontoon boat out yesterdee. We dont use it much. Before we left out... we started pulling the extra batteries off... to make room for the kids... and I looked over the top of a stack of batteries... there was a farking duck.... with a nest built right on the floor of the boat.... with 12 EGGS!!!!!11!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!11!
I dont know if thats a high number... but it seemed high to me.
Anyways... I called one of the rehabbers that I sell worms to... and axed what to do... and she told me to toss the eggs.... and the duck would nest elsewhere. But TGWBWJB99 was too much of a softy to toss the 12 eggs... so we just took off with the duck in the boat... sitting on her eggs. She made it about 45 mins... then flew off. I'lll be interested to see if she has made her way back.
If she doesnt come back... I wonder if you can eat duck eggs?

iffens you simply squart over them for 10 hours a day, for just a few days (45) then they should come out just fine.
They are loyal animals, and since they are birds, will probably never bother your worms.....(but they'll probably kill all of your cats).
