Hot in Cleveland---Eagles at Browns Livefyre event...and 15 cuts on the line...
Written by Thomas Jackson on .
QB Nick Foles is expected to play little more than 1 quarter for the Eagles---then it's the Trent Edwards Show the rest of the way.

TV: 6ABC (Local Philly area)
Radio: 94WIP
Game Time: 7:30 EDT, August 24, 2012...Cleveland Browns Stadium.
The Browns had a pretty good defensive outing in their previous preseason game, a 35-10 blowout of the Green Bay Packers, so Nick Foles should get a decent test while he is in there. The Browns defense (coordinated by Dick Jauron) held a sloppy Packers squad to 228 total yards and 10 first downs and forced four turnovers. Reserve safety David Sims had the most notable takeaway, intercepting Green Bay quarterback Graham Harrell and returning the pick 38 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter. The Browns succeeded on the defensive side of the ball despite the absence of several starters, with linebackers D'Qwell Jackson (shoulder), Scott Fujita (leg) and Chris Gocong (torn Achilles) and linemen Phil Taylor (torn pectoral), Ahtyba Rubin (pelvic surgery) and Frostee Rucker (knee) all not present. Nickel back Dimitri Patterson also missed the contest with a sprained right ankle.
Fujita, Taylor, Gocong and Patterson are among the Cleveland contingent expected to be held out once again this week, a group that will also include rookie running back Trent Richardson as the fifth overall pick in April's draft continues to recover from a recent knee scope.
Wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi (head) and tight ends Benjamin Watson (undisclosed) and Jordan Cameron (back), all of whom were inactive against the Packers, could be ready to return for Friday's test. LB Jackson and DL Rubin are possibilities as well.
In addition to Vick and Kafka, other notable Eagles certain to sit out are defensive end Jason Babin (calf), and probable injury scratches include cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who left the New England game with a shoulder injury, linebacker Jamar Chaney (hamstring), linebacker Casey Matthews and safety Tom Nelson (high ankle sprains).
So get ready to to see most of your healthy 1's play maybe a quarter... then it's officially the Gong Show. Fifteen guys on the roster won't be there after this weekend.
I turn you over now to our informed commentators on the Livefyre panel... These folks know their Eagles football, and they know the personnel who are on the bubble tonight, so they can guide you through the mayhem. They can also direct you to a live-stream video feed if you need one...and oh yeah, they will probably entertain you, too, with original and humorous observations of not only football---but life in general. Seriously, if the E-Channel ever gets into NFL broadcasting, they should sign these guys to do live commentary. It would be a hit..gold, Jerry, pure gold!
NFL network is showing the iggs vs. browns replay in 15. I gets to watch me some fooseball. Foles for president
I want perfection in preseason, you hear me!!! Perfection!
Derp derp derp derp derp derp derp derp
Anyway - thanks Mr Noodler, I learned something.
To focus on Poisitives----- not quite yet BUT I thinky we have our 'Heir Apparent' here at QB.
Later Folks
Don't know what else was in place - BUT- our D seemed to 'tighten-up' when our 'Starting' D Line sat.
Am I wrong?
wasnt our starting D-line playing for that 1st trip to the redzone? Looked pretty good to me.
Can't tell if you think I'm trying to prove a point - I'm not.
I'm trying to see this thing the way other folks do. I need the help.
Yes - D Line had some great plays BUT draws and up the middle stuff seems there for the taking.
Better contain from the Ends than I saw 1st game but in the middle - seems like something is missing.
I dont assume anything from you Palm.
And again, its my general understanding that up the middle stuff is primarily on the backers. The Wide-9 emphasizes getting the entire line to attack downhill, so the backers need to be there to clean up in the run game.
@Palm Feathers @Nuuuuuuudler @Kenemeka haha, we dominated the stupid Browns, what else do you want in a preseason game? Was there a shit load of penalties, yes, that has to be corrected. You should be a WIP caller er sumptin, sheesh.
back in your day, I would guess there was much more emphasis on stopping the run than getting to the qb, right?
You definitely did not play in the wide-9 . . . different ballgame.
again - my old knowledge here.
Back in the Stone Age - it was on us - the D-Line - to keep those O Line guys OFF of the 'Backers.
I don't see that now. Maybe it's not the same - just asking?
1st of all . . . I only count 2 d-back issues. Asmo gets burnt in off coverage . . . I'm pretty sure Juan calls the coverages and its no secret that Juan wants to use Asmo for off-coverage (see last year). Of course . . . asmo could be screwing it up somehow. I'll call that a wash . . .
Jarrett is Juan's project, and he's making no improvement. 2nd round pick playing 3rd string . . . Bowles didnt pick the guy, or talk him up. That is on Juan.
Pretty sure the d-line and backers are primarily responsible for the screens and draws, right? Shall we blame the position coaches, or the guy thats supposed to be orchestrating the position coaches?
Agree to all. I'm STILL focused on that little 'argument' last week - Reid-Jenkins-Washburn.
I know it was 'Quick' but where was Castillo? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Gave him a TON of credit last year but the rubber gots hit the road now. Got a bunch of new toys, etc, etc.
Not a challenge but a question.....
MOST of the stuff above is about D-Back 'issues'. How much of this is under Bowle's domain?
i think Castillo is our problem on defense period.
I see Reid doing all the coaching while Castillo is standing on the sideline squinting at nothing. I see penalty after penalty. I see asmo getting picked on and Jarrett watching plays instead of making them. I see entire drives go by before we adjust to the screens and draws. I hear nothing from him but "fundamentals".
I thought the position coaches were responsible for the fundamentals? Isnt the coordinator supposed . . . coordinate?
Spiff - if you're out there.
Fidel's mountains didn't turn Isaac.
Starting tonight - I'll stand on the beach - in my Flyer's gameday outfit - Palm Hat in place and stare out at Texas.
Maybe that'll send it West?
If not - what a VERY comfortable way to enjoy some of Philip Morris' finest.
Safety is just as weak asever. I'm glad Nate is holding his own and all but . . . who pulls ahead for backup? Atogwe has yet to so much as make a tackle. Nelson has that ankle sprain. Jarrett still looks all kinds of cornfuzed. Thomas made a few plays but blew at least one. Rau came on out of nowhere. Andy . . . your job kinda suks
Another Preseason game . . . another clusterfuck. Running back and D-end just not getting any clearer. Good game by Polk, kinda down game by Brown. Tapp and Graham both showed up.
Seriously, can we just go light at reciever? 4 until Coop comes back then make the final cut between him, Damaris, Havilli, and Polk?
How many D-linemen do we keep?
Welp ....... I had all intentions to watch/listen to the game last night but I was so dog tired after the week from hell I fell asleep about 11 and damn missed it!!!!!
Wow Nick Foles is looking the Biz!!! ....... Hmmm Dave (The Brownie Bro) is going to get some stick today at golf ..... LOL!!
@Jerky Do you think deep down in places they don't talk about... They think he's a cock too?
Prince amakagotdumpedinthetubagain had a high ankle sprain and is likely out a few weeks to a month... With Hosley nursing his srg hulka's big toe... Who's slated to play cb for the giants now? JPP has a bad back (that was only a matter of time)... difficult to repeat anyway... And this ain't making it any easier on them!
Youse guys must live in a dream world... If healthy MV is our starting QB... Especially in a year AR needs to win... Say he sits MV for Foles and Foles bombs??? You've done a few things... You more than likely ruin Foles, the season, and AR's chance of staying HC... Vick was like 6-2 in games he started and finished in a year he stunk it up.. That's a known commodity... To abandon that in favor of a rookie??? It'd better work or you pack your bags! IMO that is way too big a risk to take when you're already on the hot seat... Foles can start in 2013 but 2012 is Vick as long as he is healthy enough to play... Book it!
@atvcar If Foles is tearing shit up, and Andy decides to keep Vick on the bench while Foles is playing lights out, Foles instantly bombs? Good sound logic.
@Jerky So Foles looks good while Vick is injured and then is named starter with Vick healthy... That is two ENTIRELY different sets of circumstances... In the first Foles has little pressure on him because he's not expected to do well as a rookie bu... But to start over a healthy Vick... With Vick sitting over your shoulder... that is WAY more pressure and the kid could easily fold under it... Ask Kolb... 3 straight 300 yard games when filling in for the inj starter... to being traded after being named the "starter" with a healthy Vick on the bench!
@Jerky ain't even close to the same thing and you know it... but yes it will be interesting but ultimately a forgone conclusion what will happen IMO
@atvcar @Jerky Well then, with that same reasoning, Kolb should have gotten his starters job back after he healed up from the concussion Clay Matthews smarshed into him. But no, Reid saw that he had a better chance to win ballgames and immediately named Vick the starter. I get that Foles is only a rookie also. Either way, if/when Vick goes down this season to injury, it'll be interesting to see what transpires afterwards.
