It was an emotional weekend, to be sure... three days of team-building for 32 city-states...the emotion even took its toll on our international fans, as Australia's "Beanstalk" and France's "Nathalie" went at it under duress...
But in the end, nearly every NFL team got better--- and I believe the Eagles upgraded in a big way. I give this Eagles Draft an A-minus for addressing a delicate symmetry of immediate need and future development.
First, let's look at the state of the MACH 10 Challenge--- Brozer and Dr. Funt are in the lead with an amazing 3 correct picks each... it now hinges on two variables: time-stamp of earliest ballot, and the unspoken variable of undrafted free agents...
Amazingly, our cyborg from "da Future", Bruzer 9.5, did not get one Eagles pick... yet correctly predicted the entire draft class of the St. Louis Rams... perhaps he lost an argument with a machine, Jim? (old Star Trek reference there, sorry...)
Anyhoo, here are the pickin's from the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rounds for the Birds:
Brandon Boykin, 4th round...CB/KR/PR, 5-10, 183, Georgia...
Dennis Kelly, 5th round...OT, 6-8, 320, Purdue...
Marvin McNutt, 6th round... WR, 6-3, 216, Iowa...
Brandon Washington, 6th round... G, 6-3, 320, Miami...
Bryce Brown, 7th round... RB, 5-11, 220, Kansas State...
And that completes the regular Draft.
For a while, it looked like the Eagles would just keep going with defensive players until they couldn't go any longer in the 2012 NFl Draft...
Cornerback and return specialist Brandon Boykin's selection followed the drafting of defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (1st round), linebacker Mychal Kendricks (2nd round), defensive end Vinny Curry (3rd round) and quarterback Nick Foles (3rd round).
Balance finally was introduced as they followed up the selection of Georgia cornerback Boykin in the fourth round with Purdue tackle Dennis Kelly in the fifth, Iowa wide receiver Marvin McNutt with their first pick in the sixth, and Miami guard Brandon Washington with their second pick in the sixth.
With their final pick, in the seventh round at 229 overall, they obtained running back Bryce Brown of Kansas State.
Boykin (5-10, 183) is expected to compete for a role as a slot defender in the team's nickel packages.
"I know they have two great corners," Boykin said. "I know thet they do play a lot of slot. Me being a slot guy, I feel I can come in and compete in the slot. I can play inside and outside, I can be a return man — kick returner and punt returner.
"I'm expected to be used in a lot of ways, so I'm just excited for the whole opportunity."
OT Dennis Kelly was chosen with the 153rd overall pick. "I'm fired up," Kelly said. "I feel like I fit in [with offensive line coach Howard Mudd's system] real well. I've grown into my body."
Kelly stands 6-8 and weighs 320 pounds.
Marvin McNutt (#194 pick overall) arrived at Iowa as a quarterback before switching to receiver. His production increased each season, culminating with 78 receptions for 1,269 yards and 12 TDs as a senior. His size (6-3, 216) helped him score 28 touchdowns in his college career and is expected to give quarterback Mike Vick another red-zone option.
Geoff Mosher (Sporting News) gives us a free summary of his take on the Eagles' late-round picks:
ROUND 4, PICK 123
Boykin has high-end speed and quick feet, making him an ideal slot corner and return specialist, the latter of which the Eagles could use immediately. Boykin can also challenge for the starting nickelback spot with veterans Joselio Hanson and Brandon Hughes. He doesn’t have great hands or ball instincts, which also makes him more suited for the slot than the outside. Boykin’s athleticism is off the charts and many scouts pegged him as a second- or third-round pick, so grabbing him late in the fourth could be a steal.
ROUND 5, PICK 153
The massive Kelly (6-8, 320) was a surprising pick, given his tremendous size. Offensive line coach Howard Mudd’s unique and active blocking schemes favor smaller, quicker linemen, but the team needed to address depth here. LT Jason Peters recently underwent Achilles surgery that will probably sideline him for the season and RT Todd Herremans turns 30 this season. Kelly can be groomed under Mudd and compete for a starting job down the line.
ROUND 6, PICK 194
Because of his size, body control and versatility, scouts felt McNutt would be an ideal fit for the West Coast offense, which is the Eagles¹ scheme. A converted quarterback, the 6-foot-3, 216-pound McNutt can be an effective red-zone target and playmaker across the middle. He can compete with Riley Cooper for the one of the last WR spots on the roster and eventually develop into a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver.
ROUND 6, PICK 200
Another upside pick who has more size and bulk (6-3, 320) than OL coach Howard Mudd prefers, Washington has the chance to peak under Mudd¹s tutelage after a disappointing college career. He couldn¹t hack it at left tackle at Miami and eventually moved inside, where he excelled in pulling formations. He's athletic but must add strength and refine his technique.
ROUND 7, PICK 229
RB, KANSAS STATE
Looking for depth behind LeSean McCoy and Dion Lewis, the Eagles take a flier on Brown, who played only one full season in college. He spent his freshman year at Tennessee but transferred to Kansas State to join his older brother Arthur when head coach Lane Kiffin left for USC. As a transfer, Brown sat out in 2010 but then left the team last season after rushing only three times for 16 yards.
Good times...we'll look at how the other teams in our Division fared in their draft challenges later this coming week...but for now, I give the Eagles an A-minus in a well-crafted draft. I like the feel of these picks, especially the selections on the defensive side of the ball. The Eagles just got a whole lot better, and bringing in new competition for key defensive positions will pay off.
Judging by bri's post regarding his draft summary, I'm going to need his findings explained to me because I understood 7 wordsout of that whole paragraph. There's smart Philly fans then there's "what the fuck is Bri talking about."
Fields....I just saw Captain America.
It sucked.....though compared to Thor....and the Hulk.....it was Gone Wiff da Wind.
The Avengers = IronMan 1 (above average) +IronMan 2 (average) + The Hulk (boring) + Captain America (below average) + Thor (worst movie on Earff) = a big fat waste of 15 bucks.
Just rewartch any X-men again for free if you wanna geek out. Those are good movies....espec the ones wiff da naked Blue chick whose power is being able to turn into any chick on Earf you want to do coitusings to.
So weighing in on Bryce vs. Polk . . . I gotta go with Bryce.
Because the kid has a screw loose. And I kinda like my bigger running backs to run with a loose screw. I may be oversimplifying . . . but I'll take Bryce. Polk can do a stint on the IR.
My draft report card is inda mix this week. It will try to balance what we got vs what was out there vs upside potential. I will employ a reverse regression model to come up wiff boff a number and letter grade,..using weighted modalities. It should be sumptin' to foller inda future,...nite ladies.
I said this earlier - beside Eagles..
Think about the interesting stuff we have to watch this year - Browns - Weeden, Wash - RGIII, Peyton w/Denver
million stories in the Naked City
This time last year I was worried about them even HAVING a season.
and trying to figure our where everyone from OTI went..
To think about 90 players, who's coming or going , starting or stopping- whatever - I'll take it.
Bring it On !
We doin GOOD!
Wiff about 90 players,..and increase of ten I suppose..we may need more coaches. The most organized teams should prosper. People always wonder why,.we don't bring in this guy,.or that guy. It's quite a challenge to actually give enuff players enuff "touches" in order to evaluate fairly. I'm amazed that they can do these things.
Palm is in a good mood tonight.
Good Hockey Game - we won at least
As a side note,.I kinda reremember that the GFBWJB99 brought up Bryce's situation about a week ago. How ironic,.he's now on the team!..The SAGE strikes agin,..then dies.
Welp... Off to read the 4 year old a bedtime story... Glad I've already been exposed to that level of maturity already... The dumb bunny books... Hmmmmmm.... Can't make this up.... Tata
Anywho... All that said... I sure do hope Polk beats out Brown and Cooper for that 3rd RB spot... Whoswiffme?
Bri... To wit (or nitwit iffin youse prefers).... Iffin I mistakenly took your post as directed at me cause you named me twice (as suking and being an AA)... When in fact it was not I in your cross hairs... I apologize. Nuff said?
The other problem wiff ATV is he can't handle the troof. I will post this for informative reasons,.so the BORED can judge this trivial repartee in their free time,.if so inclined. To wit:
go_green 649 pts
@atvcar i like the sound of that. I believe hes a lil bigger too, all the more reason i hope he beats out Brice in camp. Thanx atv.
To which I replied:
briview 13593 pts
ATV suks!!!!,..which any child of 3 would recognize. Moreover,..boff those RBs have severe issues. Why anyone would hope for the success of one over the other baffles me ,..at this stage,.unless you've followed them and have personal attachments. Anyone who finks ATV is anything but an AA,...can never be a real man...."Nuff said
MORE Scary Goalies - Nasn and Phoenix,,,
Starting to think we really do match up well with our hitting.
None of these teams seems to want to hit (except NY- Me No Likey Them)
I refuse to let this weekend (despite my Phitins struggles) be ruined by any one or two who shall remain nameless.... To... Too?
@Brozer8 captain America and Thor were origin stories!!! There is No way to make either movie really good. (Plus I hate both characters). BUT Thor 2 is being directed by the same guy that directs game of thrones so expect it to be much better. ..... the key elements that you want to take away from Thor are Loki, he's the main Villa in the avengers movie. The scene in there ware they were in what appears to be a trophy room, it's ware he got the blue box that was in captain America, in that same room( they onyx show it briefly) is a golden glove with jewels on every knuckle, that is called the infinity guantlet. That allows the ware cosmic powers( I'm not getting into it cause it's 30years worth of story). Loki makes an agreement with an otherworldly being named Thanos. That if Loki gives him the guantlet thanos will give Loki an army to take over earth. All of those movies, hulk, iron man, Thor, are set up movies for a larger story. Thor is one chapter of a book, iron man is a chapter, captain America is a chapter. It will be amazing.
@Brozer8Sitting here with my splint and sling. Just sat back down actually. Wifey just washed my body in the shower. Damn... Not sure what a person would do flying solo and being in this situation....
foosball is the Debil
did he have butt cheek transplant rejection?
@atvcar Yur 4 yr old should read to you. Nitey nite,..guvna'. That was directed to boff of you.
@atvcar Wow,..powerfully done ATV. Haha,.that post was directed at Spiffy,.hahaha!!!...hilarious.
@atvcar Not acceptable,....there's no IF about it,...you were so inflammed that i knocked you off yur perch that you neglected to conscientiously read my light hearted post. Moreover,..men don't apologize to other men,..unless they have to. They just say they mucked up. Prophet,..who i like,...needs to perk up,.although i love his enthusiasm. He seems like a good man and fine eagles fan. He does have alot to learn. You know this.
@Palm Feathers dats da rumour..
@briview Careful what you direct at my 4 year old... Or I shall be forced to direct sumtin at your offspring...
@briview Methinks sunny has possessed Bri this weekend... First he doesn't like our draft and ain't happy all weekend... And now this retort??? Hmmmmmm

You're truly a dik and have been a pain all weekend.
