It was dynamic, for sure... the Eagles traded up to get their man at Defensive Tackle...
Fletcher Cox (#94), 6-4, 298, extremely mobile defensive tackle from Mississippi State...and DL coach Jim Washburn really wanted this guy...
For the first time in some time, Andy Reid took a player in the first round that many had him targeting and that many fans pleaded he would take.
First of all, which of our MACHers had Cox in their wallets? Here's the count:
-South Philly Ben
Okay...good work, gentlemen.
Now let's analyze the pick....
To move up three spots from No. 15, the Eagles gave the Seahawks their fourth and the best of their three sixth-round picks. Coach Andy Reid said that the Eagles went into the draft committed to not dealing away either of their two second-round picks or their third-round selection.
And that's a smart move--- because several players with first-round grades - such as defensive tackles Jerel Worthy of Michigan State and Kendall Reyes of Connecticut, along with Stanford tight end Coby Fleener and Georgia Tech wide receiver Stephen Hill - are still on the board and could be there when the Eagles make their next pick of the second round.
"We had ourselves honed in on what we wanted to spend," Reid said. "And so, we weren't going to get as elaborate as some (teams) did. We had other people there that we liked if this didn't work out."
Getting Cox, many believe, will help him right away. Reid often looks long term. He may not have that luxury this year, and that may have led to the confluence of his and Eagles fan's win-now objectives in getting Cox. "His athletic ability--- it jumped out at you," Reid said. "For a big man to move the way that he can move...well, that's rare."
The Eagles entered the draft with nine picks. They still have six even after giving Seattle the 114th and 172d overall picks. Along with their second and third round picks, the Eagles still have a fifth rounder, two sixth rounders and the seventh rounder that came Wednesday after the Eagles traded Asante Samuel to Atlanta.
Here's what some of the national media pundits had to say:
USA TODAY: "Philadelphia surrenders pick No. 114 and a sixth-round selection to move up three spots, but Cox is certainly worth the price. A true penetrating three-technique, Cox does his best work disrupting upfield with low pad level and excellent burst. He still has a long way to go technique wise, infrequently using his length to his advantage, but Cox's relentless motor is invaluable. This is a perfect fit for the Eagles' aggressive, upfield defense."
NFLN's JASON LACANFORA: "Defensive tackles annually go higher in the actual drafts than the mocks. In that sense, Cox's fast rise should surprise no one. NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell calls Cox the best overall defensive lineman in the draft, with the "natural athleticism and body flexibility to develop into a quality pass rusher".
A lot to take in for one night! Get your rest, it starts all over for Rounds 2 and 3 later today!

Freakin Claiborn claims that almost everyone is a Cowboy fan... can't wait to smack that smile off his face...
Frenchie... hows can youse claims Americans don't like the french? Iffin not for us you'd be speaking German fraulein....
@Spiffo thank you thank you.... I'd like to thank my parents... and my 3rd grade teacher Ms. White who said if I applied myself I could one day become the angriest asshole on earff!!!
@Spiffo It was those Green and Silver shades.
@tboned208 Even worse when all you can see is underneath the bill of the hat because they can't get it past their Predator dreads...
@Spiffo He thinks everyone got the same Wonderlic score as he did too..
@beanstalk I would
@fieldsr69 I want Jeffrey and he will be there,...I think.
@beanstalk I get by with a little help from my friends...
@atvcar atv is a trouble maker. That's why he's here, he takes most of the bullets.
@atvcar i have not claimed anything. i suggest you re-read what i wrote. and take into account my previous posts in which i mentioned world war two.
@atvcar I'm gonna have to give you a 'duh' on that one...
@Jerky @tboned208 richardson look like a clown... how embarrassing... come on NFL don't you know who's getting selected?
@n.akuatuta don't be so literal... you axed if americans liked the french... that clearly implied you think we do not. Semantics isn't fun.
@atvcar if you have forgotten them, or didn't read, well it's your loss.
@beanstalk @Jerky yep... I do think that... but I know it as well I know what the iggles will pick... I don't bet unless I know....
@beanstalk @Jerky I'd like any of them... wouldn't be disappointed with Hill or your guys... thought TBT we probably won't have access to any besides maybe Sanu.
@Jerky @fieldsr69 I wouldn't complain... just prefer D for the next two picks. Then maybe a WR?KR in round 3 like Hilton (sp?)
@atvcar i am not mad, i'm disappointed. at myself too.
@atvcar yes, because i think you misread what i wrote, yet when i tried to explain, you kept at it. to me, that's not really a sign that you believe or respect what i try to explain to you. i agree that i take things personally, but how am i supposed to do otherwise, when i read a post starting with 'frenchie' :: !!
@n.akuatuta ok... I'm done with this... I never called or implied you aren't smart. I think the opposite, but I do think you take things too personally at times. And you did tell me "you might try not to spout off semi-approximations."... sounded like a suggestion to me... if not, I apologize for mis reading that???
@atvcar i don't think you should do anything. but if you try to put thoughts in my head, it's only normal that i should react. particularly such blanket-statements type thoughts, which indicate that you don't consider me very bright.
@n.akuatuta I wouldn't dare care either if I were you... but the same is true in reverse... so, save what you think I should do in the future.
@atvcar which is precisely why i put them between quotation marks. you are being purposefully stubborn. i don't care what you think i think. if you don't believe me, suit yourself. i can't be bothered trying to convince you of my sincerity.
@n.akuatuta I never said the french dislike us... if you don't like being misquoted might I suggest you not do so by lumping all americans into one group?
@atvcar because, as you guys say the french dislike you, but maybe don't agree, i have heard it say that the americans dislike us.
i personally disagree, but i have the right to ask you guys, with all quotation marks (quotations you see. it means i was quoting someone) necessary, if you think so, or if you too feel it's a common feeling in your country.
@atvcar i go through great trouble to express my mind as accurately as i can, in your language at that. so be so kind as to respect that. if i had wanted to say i think the americans dislike the french, i'd have said so.
@atvcar you might try not to spout off semi-approximations. thanks in advance. carry on.
