Eagles (2-1) at Jets (2-1) Live Blog party...and the search for Mr. Gizmo...
Written by Thomas Jackson on .
Gotta hand it to our correspondent and good friend Mothra, who came up with the Mr. Gizmo idea... in Mothra's own explanation, just about every preseason game #4 in the league this week will feature some player out of nowhere who will light it up with a seemingly great game performance...and that will be the last you'll ever hear from him again, unless you follow the UFL or Arena Football. That young man is Mr. Gizmo... and Mothra will be happy to give you the back story on that name selection.
But the Mr. Gizmo phenomenon underscores just how difficult it is to make the final cut on an NFL roster...
Chad Hall (#16) is no Gizmo... but unless the Birds keep 6 (or possibly 7 ?) wide receivers, his active roster spot could be in jeopardy. A nice outing from Hall tonight will not hurt his chances...
None of the following guys will qualify as Mr. Gizmo, since they already have NFL service time or will be picked up by another team if cut by the Eagles...But these are the guys Rabbit from Bleeding Green Nation wants us to focus on tonight:
Offensive line – Haven’t heard anything much about Fenuki Topou. Which of Austin Howard and King Dunlap will be kept as backup tackle? Will McGlynn be kept as a backup guard/center?
Defensive line – Can Te’o-Nesheim stake a claim to a spot on the roster (doesn’t look like it)? My interest is focused more on the DT’s though: Hargrove, Landri, Laws.
Linebacker – Keenan Clayton and Brian Rolle...good outings could get them on the Final 53...
Secondary — Basically, I want to see all the DB’s except for the DNAK crew (Dominique, Nnamdi, Asante, Kurt). Especially Hughes, Marsh, Jarrett and Lindley.
Fair enough, Rabbit...We also already know that at least one projected starter will play--- rookie right guard Danny Watkins, who asked the coaches to play him against the Jets. His reasoning was simple. He needs the work.
But save for kicker Alex Henery, punter Chase Henry and long snapper Jon Dorenbos, Watkins likely will be the only first-teamer to see any action.
So get ready to enjoy the final auditions... Eagles vs. Jets at MetLife Stadium, 7:30 p.m. EST, local Channel 6, delayed broadcast on NFLN at 11:00 p.m. EST... And you'll be informed and entertained by live blog commentary on Livefyre by the smartest Philly fans in the NFL blogosphere...Take it away, geniuses...
Damn you guys must have typed yourselves out during the game cause its like a freakin ghost town in here. Just me and the old man knittin in his rockin chair.
My boy Russel Wilson looked good tonight, against Atv's boys, UNLV. Poor buggers gonna need to go see a doc to get that new A Hole sewed up.
LOL. ginas D had 8 sacks against the pats tonight... That tells me sumptin. Prolly not da same thing it tells sunny though.
Tells me the giants were bringin the pressure against a shoddy second team OLine.
Rams are gonna send Long at Watkins all day long. Long put the hurt on garrard tonight....
Clayton might be better than fuku........teo is not very strong, not very quick, not very athletic, and maybe ,.not very bright....besides that,..he's ok
I don't even see Teo on the espn box score at all... Like no tackles, nuttin... Is dat truff?
11-5,.......cuz of our youf.......if I had to choose between hall and moss,...i wouldn't.
You said you had a doctors appt the other day, and I forgot to axt how it went ? How did the penetration go ?
The hot wings were good. Tolly was kinda funny,..early inda 3rd Q,..he thought the game was almost over! I couldn't make that up,....and baldy..let him go!
