Back in the mix...and McGlynn is McGone...
I can only tell you how much I missed you... and being out of the mix for three days was mentally and emotionally a burden. Knowing that the Eagles' final cuts were going down without any link to the mainland or especially you guys for information was a drag...made even worse because I had to pretend to the wife and the locals it wasn't bothering me...
Smith Island is an isolated place where even the football fans among the fishermen and watermen and boat-builders there only pick up Redskins news on their short-wave radios... so my first glimpse of what went down this past Labor Day weekend was a wet copy of the USA Today which cost me a dollar at the Denny's restaurant outside Salisbury, Md. on the drive home.
There it was in the fine print under "For the record"... The Eagles claimed guard Kyle DeVan off waivers from Indianapolis. Immediately it clicked in---Mike McGlynn must have got cut...and the Howard Mudd campaign of zone-block terror continues on the Eagles' O-Line makeover...

Mike McGlynn knew it was coming when I read back on his comments to the press and also his tweets in late August... 6-4, 315, 4th year out of Pitt... I guess he doesn't fit into Howard Mudd's vision of what a zone-blocking guard or center should be... Of course, it didn't help that he reported to camp after the lockout as a tad overweight and out-of-shape... I was somewhat relieved to find out today that McGlynn was immediately claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals...I wish him the greatest of success with his new team. I really liked that guy's approach to the sport...
Come to find out, also let go were wide receiver Chad Hall, defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim, and running back Eldra Buckley - players who contributed last season. I guess those two muffed punts in the Jets preseason game ended up destroying Hall.
The biggest shock to me was also finding out Joselio Hanson was let go.
Brizer alluded to that possibility several times last week, so I shouldn't be shocked. He spoke of "big-name, big-contact" veterans that would become expendable. I shall never doubt the GK's wisdom... I just didn't think it would be Hanson that got hinked.
Also let go were defensive tackles Derek Landri and Anthony Hargrove, tackle Ryan Harris, tight end Donald Lee, and wide receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins... The Eagles and Harris, who had back surgery last week, agreed on an injury settlement.
According to Jeff Mclane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, teams were reportedly calling about Hanson, but in the end the Eagles were forced to release the 30-year-old and get nothing in return. Hanson had been the first-team nickel corner for more than four seasons, but his $2.4 million cap number hurt his chances of sticking around. The Eagles still have a whopping 11 defensive backs - six corners and five safeties - on the roster. They kept all three young corners - Trevard Lindley, Curtis Marsh, and Brandon Hughes - and hung onto safety/special-teams ace Colt Anderson.
Ten defensive linemen made the team, five apiece at end and tackle. Canadian Football League product Phillip Hunt beat out Daniel Te'o-Nesheim for the last end spot. Even though he was a 2010 third-round draft pick, the Eagles gave up on Te'o-Nesheim, as they did two years ago on Bryan Smith, another third-round defensive-end bust. Hunt beat out Te'o...this was another shocking development to me...not so much that Te'o was in danger of being cut, but that Phil Hunt made the team.
Another shocker: Sir Winston Justice is activated at right tackle... He has allegedly agreed to restructure his contract in order to stay on the team.
Veteran DE Juqua Parker, whose salary would have cost the Eagles $4.4 million against their cap, agreed to a similar restructuring. The Eagles will have approximately $4 million and change - after various expenses are paid - in cap space, according to an NFL source. I think we can infer this is DeSean Jackson's money now...
Wow.
I'll look into more of this new roster after I consult with you guys... I'm still in shock over some of the guys that were waived... I need settle down, perk up and look closer at the guys who made the team against all odds...
Oh yeah, here's a quick look at the veteran guard the Eagles just picked up from the Colts:

Kyle DeVan, 6-2, 306, age 26, UDFA in his 3rd season out of Oregon State.. started in 21 games for the Colts over the past two seasons...Howard Mudd is very high on the guy.
