Eagles offense will be completely different from what we saw in Pittsburgh...

Written by Thomas Jackson on .

I think Andy and Marty threw the league a change-up in Pittsburgh...

Everyone knows Game#2 in preseason was the "show and tell" session in a work-stoppage season... game #3 will be the "dress rehearsal" for the first team and will reveal nothing in terms of offensive game plan... game #4 will be the final audition for the guys on the bubble...

It has occurred to me upon review that the Eagles offense put on a downfield show in Pittsburgh that was meant to distract opposing defensive coordinators around the league, and cause them to lick their chops in false anticipation of a meal they will never taste...

For those of you who have been griping for years "Why don't the Eagles run more and screen more?", you are about to get your wish...

mccoyshortyardage

LeSean McCoy (above), Ronnie Brown, Dion Lewis...athletic guards who can road grade and tackles who can sweep...and a QB (or two) who can swing and wing off play action... it's all starting to make sense to me...

I'm starting to get a sense of the master plan on offense...and it will look nothing like the all-or-nothing passing attack in Pittsburgh...

The "Eureka!" moment hit me last night as I was reading a duet of posts from Leo Pizzini and Jerked-Up:

Leo: "Marty needs to adjust to a bail-out Cover 4... he seems to target suspect secondary with too much of  XYZ all-streak plays...you just can't go over the top when the d-backs bail out deep every play... can't keep forcing it... offense throws 3 picks...scores zero points... can't realy put it on the (Eagles) defense when that happens...never really adjusting (on offense) when it happens... figuring our opponent will  eventually stop with the Cover 4..."

Jerked-Up: "Amen to that... Andy and Marty seemed to get gridlock of the brain...the offensive plan was getting stuffed...the script needs to flip when the shyte hits the fan... need to pound the rock when that Cover-4 is on the field..."

Bazinga! It hit me...

You have to know Andy and Marty know exactly what Leo and Jerked-Up know... it's from Football 201, a second-year 3-credit course at Lombardi University....

So what does it all mean?

Classic Andy Reid misdirection play...

Eagles are going to be a run and screen play-action team this season, with the deep pass threat there just to keep you honest...

And it will not be fully unveiled until September 11 against St. Louis...

It would explain so much of the recent signings of Ronnie Brown and Vince Young, not to mention the drafting and recruiting of athletic guards and tackles who can get out there on the sweep and the screen...

If true, I'm all for it... Starship 7 will be so much better with a play-option built into every play... with the constant threat of a roll-out breaking off a two-back set... with the safeties and corners constantly pressured to play closer to the line of scrimmage... with intermediate slants and screens taking the legs and the wind out of the opposing defensive line and the LB's... and making those deep strikes downfield the ultimate deal-breakers...

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced the "epic fail" of Vick's and Young's vertical passing games against Pittsburgh the other night was an intentional attempt by the Eagles coaching staff to distract the league from planning for what we are really going to be about on offense this season...

If I turn out to be wrong, I will hand the controls of this column over to Sunny Rickles for Super Bowl Week... and if I am that wrong, I'm sure we'll be getting up-close-and-personal interviews from Sunny with Eli Manning and Jason Pierre-Paul...

By the way, I went to a luncheon yesterday in Harrisburg featuring Rodney Peete (former Eagles QB) as a guest speaker...and Rodney discussed the theory presented above with me... and agreed.

Peete, 45, is eight years removed from the last of his six NFL stops. But Peete is too busy to be called retired. He and his wife, actress Holly Robinson Peete, brought their message of autism awareness to “An Afternoon of Inspiration,” a luncheon sponsored by the Greater Harrisburg Area Chapter of the Autism Society.

A packed ballroom at the Radisson Penn Harris in East Pennsboro Township listened as the Peetes shared the joys and tribulations of having a child with autism. Their first son, R.J., 13, was diagnosed with autism in 2000, when Peete was playing with the Oakland Raiders.

The Peetes said they enjoy returning to Pennsylvania. Holly Robinson Peete is a Philadelphia native, and Rodney beams when asked about his four seasons (1995-98) in an Eagles uniform, the highlight of which was a 58-37 victory in the 1995 playoffs over the Detroit Lions, the team that drafted him out of Southern California six years earlier.

“I had a fantastic four years in Philadelphia,” Peete said. “One thing about Eagles fans is that there’s nothing like them, around the world. As passionate as they are, the way they show up and fill the stadium every time they play, I had an unbelievable experience.”

He can see that legion of fans possibly enjoying the upcoming season.

“Having [quarterback] Michael Vick in his third year with the team and under Andy Reid, it’s going to be great for him and the whole organization,” Peete said. "You're going to see a whole different style of offense from what they showed you in Pittsburgh..."

And the Eagles defense?

"They're just messing with some combinations right now... it's going to really tighten up in September," said Peete.

“And with that revamped secondary, you go into the week and you talk to the offensive coordinator and say, ‘Can we run the ball this week?’... I wouldn’t want to get into too many third-and-8, third-and-10 situations,” Peete said. "They don't want other teams to know it yet, but that defense is loaded...and the final product is yet to be revealed."

I like the stability that TH brings to the left side but wil sacrifice that rather than Dunlap starting at RT

@atvcar may sound unfair but I really don't care what he does Thursday. He simply doesn't inspire confidence. Will turn it in for the night

Reid mentions Todd Herremans can play RT but also said Winston Justice is getting close to practicing.

Yeah poet... that sounds kinda dangerous. Think I'd go in. Juat because it doesn't bother you much now.... doesn't mean it won't come back with a vengeance... in Bro's homeland... da future. Anytime you get swelling up in yur mouf... it can get dangerous quick.... cause all that teef shits is connected to yur brain In fact... there's a big artery in yur neck that carries all the food from yur mouf... to your brain... which gives yur brain the energy it needs. ALso... if that infection/swelling gets to yur brain... you could end up like Iggy Pop... and nobody wants that to happen. Add to that that it would take 20 years of brain surgeries... and $400,000... just to get yurrbain to work like mooonbeans... after the Iggy debacle... and... welp... as you can see... you best go in and get them suckers pulled!

I hate the dentist. About a year ago my dentist told me I needed a root canal. I called his BS bluff. I didn't go in. About a week later I had a shooting pain, in the tooth, but it was nothing. Then it went through the whole right side of my face. After about a month that side of my face was swollen, and I had to eat on the other side. Still, I handled it. After about nine months of excruciating pain and swelling, it subsided. I think the nerve just gave out. So, I'm fine. I can't let cold liquids get to that side of my mouth, but other than that I'm good. I knew I didn't have to go in. That liar.
